People, access, and being told
Exporting your team
Take everything home as one zip — the data, the notes, the time, and your files exactly as you uploaded them.
Everything in your team is yours, and you can take a copy of all of it whenever you like. Not only if you are leaving: some people keep one for their own records, some need one for a client, and some just like knowing they can.
Where the button is
Open Team settings (your name in the top corner → Team settings) and scroll to Export. There is one button, Export everything. Press it.
Building the zip takes a few minutes for most teams, longer if you have a lot of files. You do not need to wait on the page: we email you when it is ready, and the same section shows Ready with a download link the next time you look.
Only an admin of the team can export it. A member or a guest does not see the section, because the export holds every project, including ones they may not be able to open.
What you get
One zip file, named after your team and the date. Inside:
- README.txt — a short note saying what is in the zip and when it was made.
- team.json — everything, in full. Your people and their roles, every project and its
task lists, every task with every detail it carries (status, priority, estimate, due date,
who it is assigned to, labels, its parent task, who watches it), every note as it was written,
every time entry, and the whole history of who did what. People are named by email, tasks by
their reference (
acme-142), projects by their key, so it makes sense outside sjTasks. - tasks.csv and time_entries.csv — the same tasks and time as two spreadsheets, one row each. They open in any spreadsheet program.
- files/ — every file anyone uploaded, exactly as it was uploaded. Not a preview, not a
smaller copy: the original bytes. They are arranged by project and task, so a photo on task
acme-142is atfiles/acme/acme-142/photo.jpg. A file attached to a project rather than a task sits under the project, and a file uploaded to the manager and attached to nothing is underfiles/unfiled/.
Nothing in the trash is included.
The link works for seven days
The download link on the settings page works for seven days from when the export was built, then the zip is removed. That is a copy we made at your request, not your data — the team itself is untouched, and you can ask for a new export whenever you need one.
Very large teams
If the files in your team add up to more than a single export can carry (5 GB), the zip is still built with everything else in it, and the README says the files were left out. Reply to the email and we will get the files to you another way.
If something is missing
If you open the zip and something you expected is not there, ask us. Reply to the email that told you it was ready, or use the contact form, and a person will look into it.
